Revision for Assessments

Why Revision is important and how our brains work.

To help our students and parents understand the importance of revision, please watch the video below that explains (in a simplified way) how our brains work and what is needed to store knowledge into our long term memory.

How our brains work

How Corsham Countdown works.

Please watch this video that explains what Corsham Countdown is and why it helps our students revise: Why Corsham Countdown?

In KS3, students will receive one summative assessment within the year. Year 7/8 and 9 (Core Subjects) summative assessments are timetabled towards the end of the year but the Year 9 options subjects will have their summative assessments in November to help inform the GCSE options process.

KS4 students have their Year 10 'in lesson summative assessments' in term 6 plus their PPEs (Pre Public Examinations) in term 2 of year 11.

When preparing for assessments, students should use:

a) How we revise at The Corsham School booklet that suggests 4 revision activities found at the bottom of this page and

b) The Corsham Countdown booklet, which is found on each subject's page under the Curriculum tab.

The Corsham Countdown booklet outlines specific revision activities for students to revise in the weeks leading up to their assessments. This is so that we can guide our students to revise the correct topics, ensure that students manage their workload effectively (to avoid cognitive overload) and to give them suggestions on actually how to revise. All this promotes the importance of independent learning that is so crucial for our students.
